Frequently asked questions

Can I get Zepbound® or Wegovy® through Nutree?

Yes. Book a 45-minute consultation ($120). If Zepbound® or Wegovy® is appropriate, your clinician sends the prescription to your pharmacy. Follow-ups are $49, and we can handle your insurance prior authorization for an additional $50. The medication itself is not included: its cost depends on your pharmacy, savings programs and insurance coverage.

What is the difference between Zepbound® and Wegovy®?

Zepbound® (tirzepatide) acts on two hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1; Wegovy® (semaglutide) acts on the GLP-1 receptor. Both are once-weekly injections FDA-approved for chronic weight management, and Wegovy® also comes as a daily pill. Zepbound® is also approved for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity, and Wegovy® to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with heart disease and obesity or overweight. Your clinician helps you choose based on your health, goals, side effects and coverage.

How much does the medication itself cost?

It depends on how you pay. Published prices in October 2026: Zepbound® lists at about $1,086 a month, or $299 to $449 a month self-pay through LillyDirect or major pharmacies (KwikPen); Wegovy® lists at about $1,349 a month, or $349 a month self-pay through NovoCare Pharmacy ($199 for the first two months for new patients) and $149 to $299 a month for the pill. With commercial insurance that covers it, the manufacturer savings card can bring your copay as low as $25 a month. Prices change, so check with your pharmacy before you fill.

Does Medicare cover Zepbound® or Wegovy®?

Medicare’s GLP-1 Bridge program, running from July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027, lets eligible Part D members get Wegovy® (pen or pill), Zepbound® KwikPen or Foundayo for $50 a month, with prior authorization. Eligibility depends on your BMI and certain health conditions. If you have type 2 diabetes or obstructive sleep apnea, your regular Part D plan may cover a GLP-1 at its usual copay instead. Use the insurance pre-check on our Zepbound® and Wegovy® page (/zepbound-wegovy#check-coverage) for an estimate.

Will my insurance cover Zepbound® or Wegovy®?

Many employer and Marketplace plans cover them with a prior authorization when you meet the FDA criteria (a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition), but some plans exclude weight-loss medication entirely. Sleep apnea or a history of heart disease can open coverage even on some plans that exclude weight loss. The insurance pre-check on our Zepbound® and Wegovy® page (/zepbound-wegovy#check-coverage) gives you an estimate in a minute, and our team can submit the prior authorization for you.

How do the manufacturer savings cards work?

Lilly and Novo Nordisk offer savings cards for people with commercial insurance. If your plan covers the medication, the card can bring your copay as low as $25 a month, within the program’s monthly and yearly limits; for Zepbound®, it applies to the KwikPen. Savings cards cannot be used with Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE or VA coverage.

Does Florida Medicaid cover Zepbound® or Wegovy®?

Florida Medicaid does not cover Zepbound® or Wegovy® for weight loss. It covers some GLP-1 medications for type 2 diabetes with prior authorization. If you have Medicaid, the manufacturers’ self-pay programs are usually the most affordable way to get brand-name treatment.

What is a prior authorization and how long does it take?

A prior authorization is your insurer’s or Medicare’s approval before it will pay for a medication. Your clinician sends your diagnosis, BMI and medical history; insurers usually respond within a few days to two weeks. If you add our insurance help (+$50), we prepare, submit and follow up on the request for you. Approval is decided by your insurer and is not guaranteed.

Where is my prescription filled?

Wherever you get the best price: your local pharmacy, a major chain, LillyDirect for Zepbound® or NovoCare Pharmacy for Wegovy®. Your clinician sends the prescription where you choose. Nutree does not sell or ship brand-name medication.

Can I switch between Zepbound® and Wegovy®, or from another GLP-1 medication?

Yes, if your clinician decides it is appropriate. Switching usually means restarting at a dose chosen for your history and side effects rather than an exact equivalent dose. Your clinician plans the transition and follows up with you as your dose changes.

What should I have ready for my consultation?

Your current medications and allergies, your height and weight, any recent lab results, your insurance or Medicare card if you plan to use it, and the pharmacy you prefer. If you do not have recent labs, your clinician can order them.

Are Zepbound® and Wegovy® available now?

Both are available in the United States. Zepbound® is sold as single-dose pens, a multi-dose KwikPen and single-dose vials (vials through LillyDirect only); Wegovy® as single-dose pens and a daily pill. Pharmacies can occasionally be short on a dose, in which case your clinician can help you find another pharmacy or adjust the plan.

Do I need insurance?

No. You can pay through the manufacturer’s self-pay program or your pharmacy, or use insurance or Medicare if it covers the medication, usually after a prior authorization, which we can handle for an additional $50. Consultations are self-pay.

What side effects should I be aware of?

Common side effects of Zepbound® and Wegovy® include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and stomach discomfort, especially when starting or increasing a dose. Serious risks include a Boxed Warning about thyroid C-cell tumors, pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, low blood sugar, kidney problems and serious allergic reactions. Read the FDA Prescribing Information for Zepbound® or Wegovy® and our Medication safety information page (/medication-safety), and contact your clinician about any concerning symptoms. Call 911 in an emergency.

What did the clinical trials of Zepbound® and Wegovy® show?

In clinical trials, adults taking Wegovy® along with a reduced-calorie diet and physical activity lost on average 14.9% of their body weight over 68 weeks (2.4% with placebo; Wegovy® prescribing information), and adults taking Zepbound® 15 mg lost on average 20.9% over 72 weeks (3.1% with placebo; SURMOUNT-1, Zepbound® prescribing information). Individual results vary. These results apply only to the FDA-approved brand-name medications.

Who qualifies for GLP-1 weight-loss treatment?

GLP-1 medications are generally considered for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, prediabetes, or high cholesterol. Nutree currently treats adults who live in Florida. Your clinician reviews your full health history before deciding whether treatment is appropriate — eligibility is never guaranteed.

Who should not take tirzepatide or semaglutide?

These medications are not appropriate if you or a family member have had medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2), if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have had a serious allergic reaction to either medication. A history of pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney problems or diabetic eye disease needs careful review. Your clinician screens for all of this during your intake.

Do I need to speak with a clinician to get treatment?

A licensed Nutree clinician reviews your intake and health history. Depending on your treatment and Florida rules, a video or phone visit may be required before anything is prescribed. A prescription is issued only if your clinician determines treatment is appropriate. You can also message your care team through secure chat in your patient portal, open 7 days a week.

Will I definitely receive a prescription?

All prescriptions are issued at the sole clinical discretion of your licensed provider, based on your health profile and clinical evaluation. Your clinician's role is to determine what is medically appropriate for you.

Can I use my FSA or HSA card?

Yes. FSA/HSA cards are accepted at checkout. Whether a purchase is eligible is decided by your plan administrator.

Is Nutree licensed in Florida?

Nutree Clinic's clinicians are licensed in Florida, and care is delivered under Florida telehealth law. Nutree Clinic is LegitScript certified.

Safety

Important Safety Information

Prescription only. Treatment is prescribed only if a licensed provider determines it is medically appropriate after reviewing your health history. A prescription is never guaranteed.

Zepbound® (tirzepatide) and Wegovy® (semaglutide)

Zepbound® and Wegovy® are FDA-approved prescription medications, prescribed only if your clinician determines they are appropriate for you. The summary below is based on their FDA-approved labeling and does not replace it.

WARNING: Risk of thyroid C-cell tumors

In studies in rodents, semaglutide and tirzepatide caused thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). It is not known whether they cause these tumors in people. Do not use these medications if you or any family member has ever had MTC, or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Tell your provider right away if you notice a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath.

Do not use if

  • You or a family member have had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), or you have MEN 2
  • You have had a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide, tirzepatide, or any ingredient in the medication
  • You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant

Serious warnings and precautions

  • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis): stop the medication and get medical help right away for severe stomach pain that will not go away, with or without vomiting; the pain may spread to your back.
  • Gallbladder problems, including gallstones: symptoms can include pain in the upper stomach, fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or clay-colored stools.
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), especially if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea. Signs include dizziness, shakiness, sweating, confusion, fast heartbeat, and hunger.
  • Kidney problems: vomiting and diarrhea can cause dehydration that may worsen kidney function. Drink enough fluids.
  • Serious allergic reactions: get emergency help for swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, trouble breathing or swallowing, severe rash, fainting, or a very rapid heartbeat.
  • Changes in vision in people with type 2 diabetes (diabetic retinopathy complications).
  • Increased heart rate at rest.
  • Depression or thoughts of suicide: watch for new or worsening mood changes and tell your provider right away.
  • Severe stomach problems: not recommended if you have severe gastrointestinal disease, including severe gastroparesis.
  • Food or liquid getting into the lungs during surgery or procedures that use anesthesia or deep sedation: tell every provider who treats you that you take a GLP-1 medication before any procedure.

Common side effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, indigestion, heartburn, burping, decreased appetite, headache, tiredness, dizziness, and injection-site reactions. Gastrointestinal side effects are most common when starting or increasing a dose.

Drug interactions

  • These medications slow stomach emptying and may change how other oral medicines are absorbed.
  • Tirzepatide may make birth control pills less effective. Use a non-oral method, or add a barrier method, for 4 weeks after starting tirzepatide and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.
  • Tell your provider about all prescription and over-the-counter medicines and supplements you take, especially insulin or sulfonylureas.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Do not use during pregnancy. If you plan to become pregnant, talk with your provider; semaglutide labeling advises stopping at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy. Tell your provider if you are breastfeeding.
